Description

The Peloponnesian War is an adventure that has shaken and largely marked the history of Ancient Greece. Military events succeed political decisions and vice versa, composing a complex historical context.

Throughout this desperate struggle for supremacy between Athens and Sparta, both camps attempt to influence the psychology of the opponent as well as that of their friendly audience. In the present work, an effort is made to view Thucydides' texts from a perspective different from the simple recording of historical events.

In this light, we understand that psychological operations, by whatever name or characteristic they were given at that time, played an important role in the evolution of the Peloponnesian War. We observe the protagonists of the civil conflict employing all known means of the time in order to influence the target audience and achieve their goals.

The work of Thucydides, perhaps even without the great historian intending it, preserves valuable historical information about the conduct of psychological operations up to the present day. Thus, we are led to a new and original understanding of Thucydides' work.

  • Paper quality
  • Was it easy to read?
  • Understanding of the subject matter
  • Was it interesting enough?
  • I liked the writing style
  • I would read a book by the same author
  • I would recommend it for reading
  • It is a book that deals mainly with the psychological effects of events, rather than operations as the title suggests.
It is not divided into chronological points during the Peloponnesian War but moves from one event to another without mentioning important events that occurred in between (e.g. the death of Pericles), the outcomes of battles that followed after the narration of the "operation" or at what point in history it is.
More like a repetition of random events, rather than a narration of specific techniques with strategy that happened.

The similarity of the situations with today's events leaves you speechless, as does the level of diplomacy 2,500 years ago. I don't know if there are many differences from today, but I don't know if there is any other book like this one

The book is amazing, very understandable and rich in information and historical events. I highly recommend it to all readers who intend to buy it, as the author's work is perfect and very significant, and it will help many to accurately understand the psychological factors that marked the course of the events of the greatest ancient Greek civil war, through the narration of the events by Thucydides himself. Once again, congratulations on the importance and contribution of the writing outcome.
