This work has such a structure and internal composition that it can serve simultaneously as a reliable informative read for the general reader, a reference book for the untrained social or historical scientist, a primary manual for students of educational sciences, and a working tool for specialists studying the history of education in modern Greece.

The chapters of the book follow the established chronological distinctions in the field with conventionally-symbolic boundaries of 1833 and 2000. However, the intended interpretive approach to the main characteristics of modern Greek education is also undertaken by examining certain topics in timeless sections.
