The essential oil of Oregano is obtained from steam distillation of the leaves of this plant, which is different from common oregano, and contains the substances carvacrol (75%) and thymol (1.5%).

The Oregano essential oil has a strong characteristic aroma and is often referred to as oregano oil. It also contains antimicrobial substances, making it ideal for aromatherapy, mainly for respiratory issues such as asthma, bronchitis, and cough. It is used to combat diabetes (2-3 drops in a beverage or water) and has strong antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiparasitic properties.
