The Terra Mystica board game by Capstone Games is a strategy game with no luck, in which players govern different groups of people and compete to expand their territories. Each group is associated with a specific terrain and transforms neighboring terrain to suit its environment. Players use the resources available to develop their group’s abilities, expand their territory, and advance in four religious cults.
Buildings provide different resources and can be upgraded: dwellings become trading posts, trading posts become strongholds or temples, and temples become sanctuaries. Strongholds unlock a group’s special ability, while temples support the development of religion and the skills of terrain transformation and shipping. Being near other groups provides additional power, but makes expansion more difficult.
