Description

Description

In this book, I follow the course of a tactical division of the Wehrmacht, which was established in 1941 in Vienna and operated in Serbia and the Peloponnese. Initially, this division was supposed to take over the enforcement of order in Serbia and defend the Peloponnese from a possible landing of Allied forces.

However, very soon it became involved in fierce clashes with the partisans and the so-called retaliation operations. The book deals with the entire period of the Occupation in the Peloponnese, the role of the Italians and the British, the Greek resistance organizations, and the Greek security battalions that collaborated with the Germans.

The study also examines the reasons that led to the imposition of "retaliation," the individuals responsible for these operations, and how the issue was addressed by the judicial authorities in Greece and Germany during the post-war period.

Thus, the massacre of civilians in the context of Operation "Kalavryta" inevitably became a key theme of the book. Based on the number of civilian victims, this is clearly the largest war crime committed by the Wehrmacht in a non-Slavic state during World War II.
