As I wander to the Cave of Saint Neilos the Myrovlytis, I reflect on the indomitable will of the Saint, who came here, to the rugged flank of Athos in the 17th century, from Saint Peter of Kynouria and the neighboring Monastery of Panagia Malevi, to fight on the highest spiritual battleground of the holy mountain.
Standing before the entrance to the Cave of Saint Neilos, joyous and blissful from the fulfillment of the purpose, I feel closer to heaven than to the earth upon which I tread.
After his repose, from where his tomb was, an abundant flow of myrrh gushed forth and fell from a height of two hundred and fifty meters into the sea, where it was collected by the Christians.
The life led by the great Venerable Neilos the Myrovlytis is recorded in a unique biography, accompanied by a record of the miracles attributed to him as well as hymns in his honor.
