Description

High-performance gel adhesive for tiles, with a long open application time and zero vertical slip. The advanced ACTIVE GEL TECH technology in the adhesive composition creates a fluffy texture that does not "pull" and becomes so fluid to provide a fatigue-free application. The combination of zero slip and long open time increases the productivity of the installations, and at the same time, the NEW GENERATION ELASTICITY provides greater elasticity compared to C2TE category adhesives. It provides strong bonding on all common substrates, high resistance to weather conditions, and is suitable for indoor and outdoor use on horizontal & vertical surfaces.

Consumption: 2.5 - 5.0 kg/m2

H THRAKON GEL tile adhesive gel is a cement-based adhesive suitable for all types of demanding tile adhesions - installations. It consists of cement, silica sand, and special gel additives, THRAKON technology. The gel additives act as moisture regulators, storing excess water and releasing it at the appropriate time during mixing. Thus, the additional addition of water does not affect the final result. The combination of zero slip and long open time (30 minutes) increases the productivity of the installations. It provides strong adhesion to all common substrates and high resistance to weather conditions (rain - heatwave - frost). It is classified as a C2TE type adhesive according to EN 12004-1:2017 and EN 12004-2:2017 standards for internal and external use.

Application Fields

  • Suitable for bonding: absorbent and non-absorbent, small or large ceramic tiles of any type, thin tiles, stone tiles, marble tiles, granite tiles, cotto tiles, klinker tiles, gres tiles, porcellanato, glazed porcellanato, decorative elements and mosaics on external building facades, as well as on substrates where high bonding strength, elasticity, and resistance to climate variations are required.
  • Recommended for bonding tiles on: common substrates as well as substrates with high requirements such as plasterboard, cementitious screeds, cementitious backer boards, concrete, cellular concrete (YTONG), cement boards, bricks.
  • It is ideal for tile installation in: pools, W.C., bathrooms, changing rooms, saunas, hammams, showers, drywall, etc.
  • It is suitable for both interior and exterior use on floors, walls, terraces, and balconies. It is also recommended for installing large-sized tiles, as well as in areas with high humidity (pools, W.C., bathrooms, changing rooms, saunas, hammams, showers). Suitable for urban, industrial, and commercial use, as well as for urban architecture.

Advantages

  • Complete waterproofing of the tile surface.
  • Avoidance of thickness reduction under the weight of the tile.
  • Tolerance to significant water increase, increasing fluidity without affecting workability quality.
  • Controlled hydration time, due to GEL technology.
  • Extension of open time compared to conventional C2TE adhesives.
  • Extension of correction time.
  • Greater elasticity compared to conventional C2TE category adhesives.
  • Greater tolerance to temperature variations.
  • High thixotropy (resistance to sliding even with large tiles).

Application Steps

Step 1

The substrate of the flooring must be: dry, flat, clean from decayed and foreign bodies such as residues of plasters, paints, oils, etc. It must be stable, free from shrinkage/distortion tendencies. Before application, absorbent substrates should be moistened with water, while for optimal results, they should be primed with GLX 290 or GLX 292 primer. In special cases of substrates such as cellular concrete (YTONG), in indoor areas, the use of GLX 292 is necessary. We always recommend testing on a corresponding substrate sample before use on the actual surface. In the case of flooring on the surface of waterproofing materials such as asphalt sheets, liquid organic membranes (bituminous, acrylic, polyurethane, etc.), etc., it is necessary to cover them with a special installation substrate.

Step 2

In a clean container, add 7.50-7.75 liters of clean water and then gradually empty the contents of a 25 kg bag of THRAKON GEL product. Mix continuously with an electric mixer until a homogeneous mortar paste is obtained.

Step 3

Allow the mixture to mature for 5 minutes and mix it again slightly. The mixture is ready for use for the next 1.5-2.0 hours. After the preparation of the mixture, the addition of additional water to adjust the workability of the mortar is prohibited. This will lead to a reduction in its strength and an increase in shrinkage.

Step 4

Apply the adhesive to the application surface and then comb the adhesive layer with a special notched trowel. The thickness of the adhesive material should be judged satisfactory for the specific coverage.

Step 5

Within 30 minutes of applying the adhesive, place the tiles in their position by pressing them well to ensure full contact. The placement of the tiles on the wall can start from the top with a whole tile, without any sliding. Excess adhesive should be cleaned from the joints before it dries. On external surfaces, create expansion joints every ≈ 10 m2, while in indoor areas, their application is done every ≈ 25 m2. Follow all existing construction joints in the substrate. In the points of contact between the floors and the walls, the use of suitable silicone mastics is recommended.

Step 6

During application, as well as in the next 24 hours, the temperature of the environment and the substrate must be between 5°C and 35°C. The adhesive, when still wet, can be cleaned with water. When hardened, it is removed mechanically.

Step 7

GROUTING - CURE
Grouting on the floor is done after 24 hours and on the wall after 12 hours. Curing is allowed after 24 hours. For grouting, use THRAKON FMF 150, FMF 160 LUX (cement-based) grouts or, if required, THRAKON FMF 155 epoxy grouts.

Save

It is kept in a sealed package in areas protected from moisture, freezing, and intense radiation for 12 months.
