Description

“The Union of Law” is the second volume of the series “The Major Themes of Jurisprudence,” which completes the series, following the release of the first volume, “We the People,” dedicated to the jurisprudence of the Supreme Court of the United States, and the third volume, “The Fair Balance,” dedicated to the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights.

The main objective of the work is to present the European Union as a “Union of Law” combined with the contribution of the Court of the Union in promoting and establishing this idea. The structure of the work is what makes it stand out, as the Author chose to systematically present the decisions to expose the evolution of the Union of Law by distinguishing and categorizing the topics into four time periods-phases.

In each thematic section, dense historical introductions are presented with the most significant institutional changes of the specific period, followed by characteristic decisions of the CJEU, while at the end of each decision, detailed and insightful observations by the Author are provided, which constitute the most valuable contribution to the overall endeavor.

Additionally, there is a thematic index, where the same decisions of the Court are classified according to their substantive content and cover the material usually found in a European law manual. With the above content, the work constitutes an evolutionary description of the path of jurisprudence that focuses on explaining the unique phenomenon of perhaps slow, but steadily progressive European integration.
