Unprecedented mega-wildfires and floods, loss of human lives and property, massive destruction of infrastructure... We observe daily, from domestic and foreign news sources, how real the red - or perhaps green? - thread is that connects Europe with the Amazon, Asia with North America, the North Pole with the South Pole.
This is the thread of the ongoing common struggle "to change the system and not nature and the climate, from the protection of the indigenous people fighting for the Amazon to securing resources for a just transition in the post-lignite era."
This struggle stands out for its particularly gendered aspect. It is no coincidence that its emblematic figures are girls, women, activists, researchers, scientists, authors, journalists, - both unrecognized and prominent - sometimes tragically victims of the modern era of climate barbarism. While Greta or Jane Goodall may be the most well-known, they are not the only ones.
The voices, initiatives, actions, and reactions of many women around the globe comprise the critical gendered imprint of the climate crisis: "it is precisely women who directly suffer its consequences, those who are called to confront it at all levels, they will take initiatives, contribute to policies, and seek sustainable solutions, not only for their immediate environment but for societies, the planet."
Women can thus be part of the solution to a crisis that is existential and whose real address requires a radical change in the ways of production, consumption, and development that "wage war on nature," as U.N. Secretary-General A. Guterres reiterates.
This existential crisis for the planet and our lives constitutes the modern battleground of the Left versus the Right. A conflict that has attempted to be captured through weekly recordings, complemented by additional unpublished texts.
Events, developments, research, metrics, observations regarding global warming from the Amazon to Europe, the melting of glaciers, the loss of biodiversity, pollution, pandemics. But also concerning the acting agents: international organizations, governments, financial institutions, the fossil fuel industry, international ecological organizations, activists, scientists, researchers, civil society, specialized websites, etc.
A recording with a viewpoint, therefore. A catalyst, I hope, to "change our way of thinking" as demanded by the ecological crisis and to "reinvent everything" as noted by French philosopher Bruno Latour: to reinvent politics, law, science, cities.
And one observation: the expiration date of the texts in this book is: The end of the climate crisis...
