Palamas. A beautiful place, part of a plain, where the small hills surrounding it are not surprising. A simple landscape, without particularities, a "flatland". And yet, as easy as it is on the eye of a traveler to take in this natural setting, it is equally difficult to discover and imagine its beauty.
The rivers that surround the place in a winding manner write on this landscape and remind us of the ancient flow of water, bringing along memories. Memories of a place with many running and stagnant waters, riverside and marshy vegetation, seasonal crops, domesticated fauna but also wild. A village prehistoric, ancient, Byzantine, under Ottoman rule, free, at war, under occupation, in civil conflict, in a new post-war Greece, and now a modern city.
A vakuf in Palamas during the Ottoman period, with some "privileges," owned by Turkish officials, owned by wealthy Greeks after the Annexation, the capital of the Municipality of Titan until 1912, the Community of Palamas until 1964, and a Municipality from 1964 onwards. A rich and continuous historical, cultural, social, and self-administrative presence that deserves to be illuminated and documented, contributing another piece to the mosaic of both individual and collective knowledge of our local and national consciousness and history.
