Following the 22 Songs and Dances from the Dodecanese (1943-46), the 44 Children's Pieces (1948-51), and the three Suites for piano (1952), Konstantinidis wrote the Eight Greek Island Dances in 1954. This is a suite of eight popular island melodies (Your little black eyes, Little sea, Pentozalis, etc.), which Konstantinidis processes wonderfully in their various harmonic variations, having gained all the knowledge and experience from his previous compositions.
Another masterful contrast of the sparse with the dense, the bright with the dark, the simple with the embellished by all kinds of ornaments (small notes, cadences, triplets, quintuplets, etc.). These dances - among the most performed works of the composer - were transcribed for two pianos in 1971. The transcription for two pianos is dedicated to the pianists Aliki Vatikioti and Nelli Semitekolo, who were also the first performers of the work.
