Description

In the new third edition (2018) of the book by law professor Spyridon Psychomanis, titled "General Part of Commercial Law - Law of Commercial Contracts," the author addresses, in the first part, the concepts and distinctions of commercial acts and merchants and the consequences that the law predicts for the commerciality of acts and the commercial status of individuals. In the second part, he deals with the various commercial contracts that arise from the undertaken commercial acts, which often receive special regulatory treatment under the law, as contracts of the modern economy, as they have been termed by many.

The driving force behind the writing was the developments in commercial law, this branch of law closely associated with the national and international economy, which have indeed been numerous and significant in recent years. These developments did not, of course, affect Greek law at its core, in its fundamental concepts, namely, the commercial act and the merchant. However, they did influence the consequences that the law, in general, associates with them.

They also impacted the individual branches of commercial law, with the overwhelming legislative introduction of new rules dictated by the innovative needs of the modern or prevailing economy. Thus, there were many changes. It was necessary to record these changes and to approach them methodically, at a preliminary scientific level, integrating them into the general framework of reference in commercial law, so as to cover, as much as possible, the needs for basic information of interested legal professionals and law students and to provide foundations and stimuli for scientific discussions.
