Dimitris Papapostolou: A Source of Inspiration for the Younger Generations
The late Dimitris Papapostolou, an esteemed composer, studied Byzantine and European music and was distinguished for his innovative choral arrangements of ecclesiastical hymns and orchestrations of folk songs.
His work, which has been awarded multiple times in international music competitions in Greece and abroad, was primarily performed by the internationally recognized Experimental Choir, which he founded in Agios Nikolaos Chalandriou, where his choral tradition continues.
The composer and choir conductor gave successful concerts in Europe, the United States of America, and Africa. The Symphonic Orthodox Liturgy, the publication of which I commend, along with many other ecclesiastical compositions of his, deeply touch the soul, evoke emotions, and elevate spiritually.
In addition to his quality musical contributions, which are reflected in his rich discography, Dimitris Papapostolou was also recognized in various ways for his significant involvement in public life, with the aim of promoting contemporary Greek culture both within and outside Greece.
This exceptional creativity was nourished by the Christian upbringing he received from his parents and from the Orthodox spiritual principles that he embraced from his early years.
Within the clear atmosphere of the Christian faith, he cultivated his musical talent, zealously and diligently drawing from the richness of the long-standing Byzantine tradition. Simultaneously, he explored, with penetrating insight, various forms of modern music and patiently, enthusiastically, and with an awareness of his limits, he struggled and succeeded in the creative synthesis of the older with the contemporary.
He will serve as a source of inspiration for the younger generations. Dimitris Papapostolou, experiencing life-giving Orthodox spirituality, constantly sought new sound forms to express his faith and devotion to Christ, the absolute Truth, incarnate Love, and infinite Beauty.
