Description & Specifications

The book Psychological Problems of Children and Adolescents is intended for use by parents, educators, psychologists, and others involved in the mental health and education of children and adolescents. It addresses processes and techniques for the prevention, early diagnosis, and timely corrective - therapeutic intervention of psychological problems in childhood and adolescence.

The content of the book is structured into six (6) PARTS, as follows: In PART I, the introductory part, it examines WHAT is problematic behavior, WHY it occurs, and HOW it occurs. In the next three PARTS (II, III, and IV), three categories of problems are examined, respectively: a) The so-called internalized problems, which are manifestations that hinder the child/adolescent in their relationship with themselves. b) The so-called externalized problems, which are manifestations that hinder the child/adolescent in their relationships with others. c) Various problems of low academic performance, learning difficulties, and cognitive deviations.

PART V refers to various diagnostic, consultative, and psychotherapeutic centers and services, where parents and educators can seek the help of specialists, the types of psychotherapeutic interventions used by specialists in clinical practice with children and adolescents, as well as the short-term and long-term therapeutic results of these interventions and self-therapy.

PART VI refers to parent counseling, during five periods of family crisis (parental mental disorders, broken families, death in the family, unexpected sexual experiences of the child, child placement in an institution), as well as to four types of parents and how each of these types affects the child’s psychosocial development.

At the end of each PART, a brief EPILOGUE is provided, which captures some thoughts of Professor I. N. Paraskeyopoulos, related to the theme of the corresponding PART, drawn from his thirty-plus years of university teaching and research on child and adolescent psychology.
