To function as a phone, you must already have or purchase a compatible Gigaset base or compatible router. Fortunately, I happened to already have a cordless device from the company and it connected without any problem to the old base, but I probably wouldn't have bought it if I had known it only had a charger. Unacceptably incomplete description.
