I wanted an external case to put an SSD in and use it as a Time Machine backup on my Mac mini m4 and it does its job just fine. It has never given me a disconnection error like I read about some others.

It was used in combination with the Kingston Fury Renegade 2TB from our review, which is a hot SSD. Generally, this is a cheap enclosure for M.2 that runs up to 10Gbps as long as it is connected to a corresponding USB port, which is usually Type-C on many motherboards and laptops. The aluminum cover does not help much on its own since the thermal pad does not touch the wall. This is due to the sliding design, whereas if it had a screw-on lid it would make better contact and transfer heat more efficiently. It does its job very well. The compatibility with both SATA and NVMe drives is an important feature for those of us who need it. The use of the UASP protocol ensures proper management of the drive by the operating system to which it will be connected. It is compact and lightweight yet sturdy at the same time. Quite easy to install the drive and to use. However, the cables that come with it are actually USB 2.0 specifications. With those, the transfer speeds did not exceed 40Mb/sec. In fact, I wondered if the whole device was problematic. Fortunately, using another, real USB 3.0 cable that I had available, I achieved speeds in the range of 500Mb/sec. However, this increases the actual cost of the product.

I received this product with one of the two provided connection cables (usb-a to type-c) missing. The closure of the case is not very stable. When I try to remove the cable, the case opens. The hard drive fits well inside the case. Initially, when I placed it, it worked without any problems. Then, when I tried to reconnect it, on two different computers even, neither of them could read it, whether I used an adapter or directly connected it to a type-c port. I opened the case (which was not difficult as I mentioned), repositioned the hard drive, and everything was okay.

Perhaps I received a defective piece. The support from the store was somewhat unacceptable, as after managing to contact them and having them say "OK, we will send you the missing cable," I never heard from them again. (Maybe they sent me their leftovers and I am unjustly criticizing the product. I will never know...)

Very good case and average speeds with the 990 SSD that was installed inside.!!! If you want to achieve maximum speeds, go for another case that supports up to 40Gbps with a Thunderbolt 4 cable.
