Daedalus, the great inventor, built a labyrinth at the command of King Minos for the fearsome Minotaur. No one had managed to escape from there, except for Theseus, who was helped by Ariadne, the king's daughter... When Minos learned of this, he was outraged and wanted to punish Daedalus and his son Icarus by locking them in the labyrinth. To escape, they fashioned wings from wax.
