Thirasia serves as a valuable field for observing small island communities, having preserved significant traces of a cultural landscape connected to the long-standing settlement history of the area, land uses, and the perception and experience of space by human communities in the past.

These traces were documented through research conducted as part of the interdisciplinary island cultures project, focusing on the case of Thirasia, as well as the ongoing archaeological excavations on the island.

This volume focuses on the geological, archaeological, and historical research carried out on Thirasia, aiming to understand the history of the landscape over the long term, from prehistory to the 21st century.

The research combines methods of surface archaeological investigation, geological and geophysical studies, and excavation, while the examination of available historical sources and archival research complement the broad range of sources, data, and perspectives.
