Description

Two inseparable friends

Poppy and Alex have nothing in common. She loves adventure and works as a travel writer based in New York City. He prefers to stay home with a good book and is a high school teacher in the small town where they grew up. Yet, these two completely different people understand each other perfectly.

Ten summer trips

It all started in their first year at university when they accidentally took the trip home together for the summer holidays. Since then, for a decade, they have had the tradition of spending an adventurous week of vacation together. Until, two years ago, everything was destroyed... Since then, they haven’t spoken again.

A final chance to fall in love

Poppy has everything she has ever wanted, yet she feels an emptiness. The last time she truly felt happy was two summers ago, on that fateful trip with Alex. And even though everything went wrong in the end. With this in mind, she decides to encourage her best friend to take one more trip together. Miraculously, he agrees. She has one week to fix everything. But first, she must admit the truth to herself. What could possibly go wrong?

It's not like "people who love books," but it is still a nice story with well-developed characters. Beloved Emily Henry!

My first encounter with the viral author of booktok, and I will tell you that I had it on my TBR for a while and was waiting for summer to read it - a good decision! Henry writes lightly, with humor and relaxed dialogues, making it an easy book for vacations or if you want to rest your mind and "escape."

This is a friends to lovers romance, quite a slow burn I would say, as their friendship plays a big role in the plot with references to the past covering a total of 12 years of friendship between Alex and Popi.

    Our protagonists ~
Alex is a grumpy and serious professor who loves books and cats, while Popi is the life of the party, with humor, an adventure lover, and someone who dresses eccentrically. The two of them, incompatible and with nothing in common, accidentally make the journey back from college to their hometown one summer, and that was it! For 12 years, they travel the world every summer and become inseparable. Their friendship is deep and strong, while there is a 5%, as Popi says, of "what if" that happens towards the end of the 12 years and turns everything upside down.

    My thoughts ~
I liked it quite a bit as a book mainly due to the characters and the building of their emotions that the author did. I didn’t feel it was rushed at all, although overall it lost a bit in my eyes. Unfortunately, I found the beginning a bit slow and perhaps tiring, especially the first dialogues where I didn't understand the humor and felt their connection was shallow. It requires a bit of patience at the start, but then the story picks up! As I read, I grew to love the book more and appreciated the fact that the author showed the whole story and all the emotions the characters went through with the same meticulousness, without the ending and their union feeling rushed, something I admit I see rarely! Also, I should mention that the narration is in the first person from Popi's perspective, and I missed Alex's side in many places; I felt Alex was emotionally shortchanged and we didn't really know how he felt.

Despite all that, I really liked it as a book, a light and friendly romance that will keep you entertained on vacation, and I recommend it!
