  • Purchased in 9/2022 and I use it 4-5 times a week for sports with music and for all my daily transactions.
It froze for the first time after 26 months and recovered immediately after a restart. Then it froze when all Garmin devices froze, and after visiting the service center, they restored it immediately. During the previous summer, it started freezing (it recovers after a restart) when it was exposed to the sun for a long time, and for this reason, I will send it to the service center with the only problem being the response time (about 1 month) and that they do not provide a replacement watch.
The solar feature is worth it because the difference in battery life is obvious after workouts with music on sunny days compared to those done at night.
I like its aesthetics, meaning that it is sporty and not flashy, the screen is good because it only gets scratched by sharp hard materials, but I would prefer it to be sapphire, the music storage capacity is huge, its connection with Jabra headphones is very fast, the health tracking is useful and comprehensive, the two-line screen is satisfactory for 2.75 - 3.00 degrees of presbyopia, the activity screens have every kind of preset and are super complete, vibration, options, information, everything is excellent.
Garmin watches are the top sports watches and the 955solar is one of the best in features, which the newer models today have not particularly surpassed except in purchase price, about +300 euros.
Also, let's not overlook the social Garmin Connect.
It speaks Greek fluently and there is a service center.
I will see how the repair I am planning will be handled, but if needed and I have the opportunity, I will definitely get a Garmin again, of course solar and with sapphire.

The solar version is unquestionably a poor choice. Solar charging is very slow and offers almost nothing. It takes many hours (about 8 hours in strong sunlight) to increase the battery by 2-3%. It is better to buy the regular version, which is cheaper and has exactly the same features.

The connection and the offered functions on the iPhone were more than I expected and work quite well.

This review is about a variation of the product

    Upd: July 2025
I still have it and it works just fine after almost 3 years. The battery, with 3-4 times * 1 hour GPS for running per week, easily lasts 10 days. The solar panel, as I had said, limits the battery loss, don't expect it to fully charge it for you.

    -----

I've had it since November 2022, it's an amazing watch and I highly recommend it. I'm just leaving a comment to help those who are hesitating between the solar version and the regular one, which is also 100 euros cheaper.

If you want the watch for simple daily use with sports activities in the city, it's better to choose the regular version.

The solar panel on the watch will not give you the power you might expect, I take it off and leave it in the sun at the right angle and in about an hour it gains 1%. On the wrist, it has never given more battery, maybe it reduces the loss.

I imagine it's more worthwhile for people who do activities outside the city where they don't have access to electricity. Of course, I don't know what the point is in that case either.

So I'm taking off one star from the solar version because I don't think it's worth the extra 100 euros, but I repeat, it's a fantastic watch for athletes, especially for running sports.

This review is about a variation of the product

It is essentially the flagship of Garmin (excluding the Fenix series, which are rugged watches). The watch is very good, with decent accuracy, but when running fast, it needs to be tightly strapped to the wrist, otherwise it "loses" heart rate readings. Apart from that, if you have used previous models, you understand that most of the money is essentially spent to "unlock" software. This software is worth it, but it is a bit disappointing that it is charged at such a high price. Also, the solar panel is purely marketing. One will not see any significant (or even practical) improvement in battery life - if I were to buy it again, I would ignore it.
