Description

What is love? A powerful force that can transform an ordinary person into a hero? A young and handsome god, who possesses both madness and reason? A simple carnal attraction that desires satisfaction, or a transcendent and eternal union of two lovers?

Is it the offspring of the myth of the androgynous humans, whom the gods envied and split in half, and since then each seeks their other half? Or is it merely a biological function of the human body? Or a Daemon, an eternal mediator between mortals and immortals?

In Plato's greatest work, the young poet Agathon, who won the award at the Lenaia in 416 BC, invites various prominent Athenians to his home the next day to celebrate with him: Aristodemus, Phaedrus, Agathon, Eryximaus, Pausanias, Alcibiades, Aristophanes, and Socrates himself, eat, drink, and try to find answers.

Excellent work by Plato. Simple, understandable, accessible to all readers... Easy for someone "newcomer" to philosophy. The only difficulty in understanding may arise in the discussion between Diotima and Socrates... Overall, the work provides multiple answers to the fundamental question of... What is love... of course, in some points it does not give a clear answer as it wants to make the reader think and philosophize for themselves... In summary, it is one of Plato's masterpieces
