Kiryu Bonsai Mix substrate is a hard, granular mineral material of Japanese origin, with a neutral pH and naturally occurring trace elements. It is primarily intended for conifer bonsai, such as pines, junipers and Chamaecyparis, as its structure resists rapid breakdown and helps keep the root zone open.

Kiryu’s permeability helps drain excess water and circulate air around the roots. It can be used on its own or mixed with Akadama, pumice, lava or pozzolan; it contains no added fertilizer.
