This study attempts a theoretical approach to how political parties could benefit from the philosophy, management standards, and tools developed in benchmark enterprises, concerning decision-making processes and policy design.
For a better understanding and identification of the "common grounds" between these two fields, an individual and combined analysis of the subjects examined is conducted. This work provides, with due diligence, a comprehensive view on issues related to the typology of political parties and their evolution, public administration models, contemporary reflections on political parties, business management standards, the study of their external and internal environments, etc.
With the thought that what parties need is a reassessment of values, better organization, the adoption of new, modernized practices, and the cleansing of outdated methods that have proven insufficient in meeting the needs of Greek society, it is argued that in a significant change in decision-making processes, the principles of strategic management can be adopted.
This study examines how healthy benchmark enterprises, which have adapted, studied, and adopted best practices that allowed them not only to remain viable but also to become profitable, can serve as a guide for the modernization and effectiveness of political parties.
