I have had a Tefal steam iron for at least 15 years and this is the third one I bought. The previous one developed a fault (a minor one, costing 50 euros) so normally I would have waited for it to be repaired, but it would take 15 days and I couldn't afford to wait due to an upcoming trip. All this introduction is to explain the urgency of my purchase.
I bought it on a Friday night from a well-known chain and on Saturday morning I put it into operation only to find that while it was heating up, it wasn't drawing water to produce steam. The box was properly sealed by the company, it hadn't been opened in the store, which is why I find it almost unacceptable that it passed quality control and reached the customer so defective. The store, even though it was Saturday, told me to bring it back and get another one. I did so half-heartedly and with a lot of stress because I had lost my trust and needed the iron immediately.
Fortunately, the new iron was flawless. Now, six months have passed and I can give a fairly confident opinion.
About the iron itself (always compared to the two previous Tefal irons I had), it is lighter and has an audible alert for when it is ready to start, when the water is finished, or if you have left it on (and of course it turns itself off – but all irons should do that by now), as well as a light that turns on when it is in a horizontal position. The light has been very useful to me during evening hours. The water tank is smaller, which concerned me at first when I read other reviews, but you can easily iron 2-3 loads of 5kg laundry with one fill. The steam is very powerful; I usually iron on normal and rarely need to turn the garment over for a better result. I haven’t needed to use the max setting, only accidentally, and I can tell because it produces a lot of steam. I've also done vertical ironing to freshen up clothes with creases from a suitcase and it works very well. The same goes for hanging curtains.
The steam settings are automatic, meaning high temperature also means a lot of steam.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t have that nice system that retracts the cord with the push of a button, so you have to wind it by hand and secure it with a Velcro strap.
As for the result, I am very satisfied, although I always iron black clothes inside out. The same applies to this iron. In terms of its shape, since it is relatively small, it irons shirts and more special clothes easily. I also have an ironing board with an extra attachment that is like a small ironing board, so the combination covers me for all clothes. The anti-scale system is the classic Tefal one; maybe I would expect some improvement because the rod can't be cleaned to perform better. Theoretically, it doesn’t need anything special, but since the water probably contains not only scale but also dirt, I don’t think it’s sufficient for years of use. Probably at some point this too will break so you have to get the next one.
Last but not least, when I bought it, it came with a free basic air fryer which I took to the village and it works perfectly!
Εχω ατμοσίδερο Tefal εδώ και 15 τουλάχιστον χρόνια και αυτό είναι το τρίτο που πήρα. Το προηγούμενο παρουσίασε βλάβη (μικρή, των 50 ευρώ) οπότε κανονικά θα περίμενα την επισκευή του αλλά θα έκανε 15 μέρες και δεν είχα το περιθώριο να περιμένω λόγω επικείμενου ταξιδιού. Όλη αυτή η εισαγωγή για να καταλήξω στο επείγον της αγοράς μου.
Το πήρα Παρασκευή βράδυ από γνωστή αλυσίδα και Σάββατο πρωί το έβαλα σε λειτουργία για να διαπιστώσω ότι ενώ ζέσταινε, δεν τράβαγε νερό για να παράξει ατμό. Το κουτί ήταν σφραγισμένο από την εταιρία κανονικά, δεν ήταν ανοιγμένο στο κατάστημα γι αυτό και θεωρώ οριακά απαράδεκτο να έχει περάσει ποιοτικό έλεγχο και να φτάνει στον πελάτη τόσο ελαττωματικό. Από το κατάστημα αν και Σάββατο μου είπαν να το πάω πίσω και να πάρω άλλο. Το έκανα με μισή καρδιά και πολύ αγχος γιατί είχα χάσει την εμπιστοσύνη μου και χρειαζόμουν άμεσα το σίδερο.
Το νέο σίδερο ευτυχώς ήταν άψογο. Τώρα έχουν περάσει 6 μήνες και μπορώ να πω με αρκετή σιγουριά μια γνώμη.
Για το ίδιο το σίδερο έχω να πω ότι (σε σχέση πάντα με τα δύο προηγούμενα Tefal που είχα) ότι είναι πιο ελαφρύ και έχει ηχητική ειδοποίηση για το πότε είναι έτοιμο να ξεκινήσεις ή τελείωσε το νερό, ή το έχεις ξεχάσει αναμμένο (και φυσικά απενεργοποιείται - αλλά αυτό πρέπει να το κάνουν όλα πια) καθώς και φωτακι που εγεργοποιειται κατά την οριζόντια θέση. Το φωτακι μου έχει φανεί πολύ χρήσιμο τις βραδυνες ωρες. Το δοχείο του είναι μικρότερο και με είχε προβληματίσει στην αρχή που διάβαζα άλλες κριτικές, αλλά σιδερώνεις άνετα 2-3 πλυντήρια των 5 κιλών με ένα γέμισμα. Ο ατμός είναι πολύ δυνατός, συνήθως σιδερώνω στο normal και σπάνια χρειάζεται να γυρίσω το ρούχο από την πίσω πλευρά για καλύτερο σιδέρωμα. Στο max δεν το έχω χρειαστεί, μόνο κατά λάθος το έχω βάλει και το καταλαβαίνω γιατί βγάζει πάρα πολύ ατμό. Εχω κάνει και κάθετο σιδέρωμα για φρεσκάρισμα σε ρούχα που έχουν τσακίσεις από βαλίτσα και αποδίδει πολύ καλά. Το ίδιο και σε κουρτίνα κρεμασμένη.
Οι ρυθμίσεις του ατμού είναι αυτόματες, δηλαδή μεγάλη θερμοκρασία σημαίνει και πολύς ατμός.
Δυστυχώς δεν έχει αυτό το ωραίο σύστημα που μαζεύει το καλώδιο πατώντας ένα κουμπί, οπότε το μαζεύεις με το χέρι και το πιάνεις με ένα σκρατς.
Ως προς το αποτέλεσμα, είμαι πολύ ικανοποιημένη, ωστόσο πάντα τα μαύρα τα σιδερώνω ανάποδα. Το ίδιο χρειάζεται και αυτό. Ως προς το σχήμα του, επειδή είναι σχετικά μικρό, σιδερώνει εύκολα πουκάμισα και πιο ιδιαίτερα ρούχα. Εχω βέβαια και σιδερώστρα με το έξτρα εξάρτημα που είναι σαν μικρή σιδερώστρα, οπότε ο συνδυασμός με καλύπτει για όλα τα ρούχα. Το σύστημα για τα άλατα είναι το κλασικό της Tefal, ίσως θα περίμενα λίγη βελτίωση γιατί η ράβδος δεν μπορεί να καθαριστεί ώστε να αποδίδει καλύτερα. Θεωρητικά δεν θέλει τίποτα το ιδιαίτερο αλλά επειδή το νερό μάλλον δεν έχει μόνο άλατα αλλά και χώμα, δεν νομίζω ότι για χρήση χρονών επαρκεί. Μάλλον κάποια στιγμή πρέπει και αυτό να χαλάει για να πάρεις το επόμενο.
Last but not least, όταν το πήρα είχε δώρο ένα basic air fryer που το πήγα στο χωριό και δουλεύει άψογα!
