The windproof cap is made of stainless steel. It helps to deflect air upwards when moving horizontally and allows downwards or upwards currents to escape from the top or bottom of the cap, respectively. Inside, above the chimney opening, there is an inverted cone with insulation inside, so that the exiting flue gases, upon hitting the cone, are directed outwards without condensing. It also prevents water from entering during heavy rainfall.
