Mill Pond Village, Oregon, Western America, 1975
Forty-six-year-old George Fisher, a simple postal worker living in his childhood home, believes he is a happy family man. He adores his two sons, Nathan and Sam, as well as his wife, Laura. George has a twin sister, Dorothy, who has been living in New York City for twenty-eight years and is a famous theater actress. Dorothy has never married, nor has she had children, and due to multiple obligations and work pressure, she doesn't even have time to visit her brother's family. However, he loves her, admires her for what she has accomplished in her life, and always feels connected to her just like when they were children.
When Dorothy, tired from her busy social and professional life, decides to return to the small provincial town and her childhood home to rest and receive love beside her brother's family, she realizes that while the whole world adores and admires her as a great actress, Laura is openly cold towards her and her two nephews, whom she has helped financially, treat her with disdain. Beyond this, she discovers that her brother drinks heavily, and the cause is his wife. This confronts her with truths she wants to remain in the background... But for how long?
