Gloflon Venous Catheters with Valve and Wings

Gloflon single-use two-way venous catheters with a stainless steel silicone-coated and beveled needle for easy penetration into the patient's vein. It features:

  • Medication injection port with silicone-coated non-reflux valve and specially designed cap to cover the injection port, minimizing the risk of infection.
  • Angled grooved wings for secure support.
  • Radiopaque line for accurate location detection.
  • Luer cap for locking when the catheter is not in use.
  • Color coding.

Indications for use of venous catheter:

  • Administration of intravenous therapy medications.
  • Administration of intravenous fluids-electrolytes.
  • Administration of parenteral nutrition.
  • Blood component transfusion.
  • Administration of intravenous agents for diagnostic purposes (e.g., contrast agents).

Selection of veins for placement:

  • Of the dorsal surface of the forearm.
  • Of the forearm.
  • Of the foot.

Responsible nurse actions:

  • Selecting an appropriate vein.
  • Adhering to principles of asepsis-antisepsis during catheter placement and care.
  • Maintaining the patency of the venous catheter.
  • Proper care of the catheter to prevent complications.
  • Managing complications.

Basic principles of venous catheter placement:

  • Selecting veins of the upper limb for catheter placement. If a catheter is placed in the lower limbs, it should be replaced with a catheter in the upper limbs as soon as feasible.
  • Selecting the catheter size based on the purpose, duration of use, and the condition of the patient's venous network.
  • Daily assessment of the venous catheter insertion site.
  • Removing the venous catheter if the patient shows signs of phlebitis or infection, or if any dysfunction in the catheter arises.
  • The replacement of the venous catheter should not be done more frequently than every 72-96 hours.
  • Smaller-sized venous catheters cause less irritation to the endothelial lining of the veins. Choose the smallest possible size that meets the patient's needs.
