This edition of the Fifth Concerto is the result of renewed corrections. In addition to comparing it with the autograph of the score (in the Royal Library of Berlin), we have compared the text with three different editions of the original edition published by Breitkopf & Hartel, listing 1613, which are referred to as A, B, and C respectively. All three editions originated from the same plates, although C has a new title page. Editions A and B are quite similar externally, but several significant errors were corrected in B, which, in the judgement of the autograph of the score at least, should have been fixed before the publication of A. Regarding the other corrections included in B, there is little doubt, determined by external and internal evidence, that they are directly traceable to the composer's intentions. These changes, of course, are also found in C.
