The rise of sexual subcultures has brought back to the forefront questions related to the body and its status in the society of postmodernity.
The problematic nature of this essay starts from the essence of the body to conclude with the understanding of embodiment in cinema (which, after the 1970s, presents the body more "materially," encapsulating a "powerful" rather than a "critical elevation"), in the products of filmed pornography, etc.
This establishes a theoretical approach both for the body and its cinematic expressions, as well as for the idea of the reception of the elements it encapsulates from us, the viewers.
In this way, a series of questions is formed, which relate to issues such as whether there can be "artistic pornography," what the status of the body is during its film recording and transcription in contemporary cinema (e.g., in the movement of "cinéma du corps" or in the cinema of Gaspar Noé, Lars von Trier, Pier Paolo Pasolini, etc.) and how this evokes spectator pleasures.
