In the book Gut Feelings: Short Cuts to Better Decision Making, psychologist and behavior expert Gerd Gigerenzer reveals the secrets of quick and effective decision making. He explains how people can trust their instincts in uncertain situations, ignoring excessive information and relying on small, simple strategies called "heuristics." Through examples, such as an athlete's success in adjusting their movements or a person's ability to fall in love with the "right" woman, Gigerenzer analyzes the techniques people use to make good decisions, whether it involves staff selection or cardiac surgery.
Gerd Gigerenzer is the Director of the Center for Adaptive Behavior and Cognition at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin and a former Professor of Psychology at the University of Chicago. He has published two academic books on heuristics and a popular science book, Reckoning with Risk.
