The Canadian architect from Norway, Todd Saunders, follows a unique approach that combines modern sculptural forms with a profound respect for nature, especially known for the Fogo Island Inn and the artist studios in Nova Scotia. Saunders's habitable buildings strive to harmonize with the topography and nature of the landscape, rather than imposing on it.
This is the first edition focusing on Saunders's houses and includes eleven of his most recent and iconic works in Scandinavia and Canada, many of which are located in stunning landscapes. The book features a rich collection of exterior photographs and interior spaces of northern Scandinavian aesthetics, with the images specifically styled for the book. The texts are written by Dominic Bradbury in close collaboration with the architect.
Sections regarding the process and methods of work, as well as Saunders’s influences and design philosophy, are added in separate sections, including drawings, plans, and photographs. The book includes 280 illustrations, of which 147 are in color.
