When the oppressed animals of Manor Farm overthrow their master, Mr. Jones, and take over the management of the farm, they imagine it is the beginning of a life of freedom and equality. Gradually, though, a cunning and ruthless elite among them, led by the pigs Napoleon and Snowball, begins to control the situation. Soon, the other animals discover that not all are as equal as they thought and find themselves trapped as one form of tyranny is replaced by another. Orwell's chilling 'fairy story' is a timeless and devastating satire of idealism betrayed by power and corruption.
