Description

Set on the coast of Sicily, The Safety Net is the twenty-fifth novel in the Inspector Montalbano series by Andrea Camilleri. Vigàta is a lively location with new film productions for a Swedish TV series from the 1950s. During production, the director asks locals to find films and old photos to faithfully recreate the atmosphere of Vigàta from that time. Meanwhile, Montalbano is trying to uncover a double mystery, one that stems from the past and another that leads him into the future. Engineer Ernesto Sabatello, searching in his home attic, finds some films shot by his father between 1958 and 1963, always on the same day, March 27, and always the same shot: the exterior wall of a country house. Hearing the story, Montalbano starts to investigate its significance. At the same time, a high school is threatened by a group of armed men, and a closer examination of the case finds Montalbano examining the students and immersing himself in the world of social media.
