Very good shaving machine for the head, extremely smooth result in the end, however it requires several passes and takes a bit of time, depending of course on how much you have let your hair grow. Ideally, it needs shaving every 2-3 days so it doesn't struggle, it requires consistency. It can handle longer hair, e.g. 7-10 days, but it struggles quite a bit, the hairs pull, it hurts a little and I wouldn't recommend it. I would like it to have a power adjustment option, i.e. medium and high setting so that there is a boost to avoid struggling, as well as being able to operate while charging so I don't have to wait. The battery doesn't last me more than two uses, because it usually takes me 20 minutes for each full shave with attention to detail so that no spot is left anywhere. I would also like the heads to have more degrees of freedom and to follow the curves of the head better, each one independently, so that there is full contact and effective shaving (and therefore in less time, with fewer passes).
Finally, I faced a classic serious problem, which I read about in all the negative reviews, and fortunately I found the solution and I am writing it here for you to apply as well, so you don't have to buy a new one or send it for service unnecessarily. In 99% of the cases where you experience what I will describe, the solution will be what I will tell you below, unless of course you are unlucky and the motor is burnt out or the battery is damaged (in that case, service is necessary, the only officially authorized store for Remington in Greece within warranty is in Athens and is called Damkalidis with the repair email [email protected]).
What happened to me is the following. I bought the machine in April and after 7 months (November) it broke. While it showed as charged, as soon as I pressed the button there was a momentary "click" and it stopped immediately, as if it completely died, without any of the 5 head motors managing to rotate. Specifically, I did the following experiments: I put it to charge for more than two hours, removed the cable, with the cap with the 5 circular blades attached, pressed the button to turn it on, a click is heard as if the motor tries to start momentarily and stops without rotating any blade at all. If I press the button again, it doesn't do it again, it's as if it's dead. I put it back in the socket for a few seconds with the cable again, the red indicator lights up momentarily and then the green one that it's charging. I remove the cable, remove the cap with the blades and press the button to start. Now all the internal motors, all 5, rotate. I press the button to stop, they stop rotating. I press it again to start, they start again. While they are rotating, I try to attach the cap with the blades, the moment it clicks in, it stops and dies. Clearly, the load connected to the motors plays a role.
I quickly found the solution. Even though I emptied the hairs and rinsed it with water after each use, sebum and dead skin had created a layer of dirt between the blades inside that wouldn't come off with just water and blocked the movement, combined with the hair pieces trapped between the blades, making the motors struggle, trying to draw more power and electricity to rotate, which led to an error state, probably triggering some safety circuit and causing it to shut off completely for safety. This latent state would reset every time I plugged it in to charge for at least two seconds, meaning even this momentary jump-start in the socket would make it work again. The solution to this is a deep clean of the blades with dish soap to break down the grease. Remove the detachable cap with the heads and soak it for half an hour in a bowl with warm water and plenty of dish soap. Then rinse it under running water as much as possible from all angles and sides/points on each head to remove the trapped hairs between the blades. Finally, grab each blade from the inside with your hand and rotate them to make sure they move freely without much friction, so the motors won’t struggle anymore. Let it dry completely, and snap it back onto the main body of the machine. Do one last jump-start by plugging it in for 2-5 seconds until the green light comes on, unplug it and... if all went well, it will start working normally again and will be like new. Enjoy! If not, then it’s something else and needs servicing. Generally, this deep clean is needed once a month.
Πάρα πολύ καλή ξυριστική μηχανή για κεφάλι, εξαιρετικά λείο αποτέλεσμα στο τέλος, ωστόσο θέλει αρκετά περάσματα και παίρνει λίγο χρόνο, ανάλογα βέβαια πόσο πολύ τα έχεις αφήσει. Ιδανικά θέλει ανά 2-3 μέρες ξύρισμα για να μην ζορίζεται, θέλει συνέπεια. Μπορεί να τα πάρει και πιο μακριά, πχ 7-10 ημερών όμως ζορίζεται αρκετά, οι τρίχες τραβάνε πονάει λίγο και δεν θα το πρότεινα. Θα ήθελα να έχει επιλογή ρύθμισης της ισχύος, δηλαδή μεσαία και υψηλή σκάλα ώστε να υπάρχει ένα boost για να μην ζορίζεται, καθώς και να μπορούσε να λειτουργεί όταν φορτίζει και να μην χρειάζεται να περιμένω. Η μπαταρία δεν μου κρατάει πάνω από δύο χρήσεις, επειδή μου παίρνει συνήθως 20λεπτο το κάθε πλήρες ξύρισμα με λεπτομέρεια να μη μείνει κανένα σημείο πουθενά. Επίσης θα ήθελα οι κεφαλές να έχουν περισσότερους βαθμούς ελευθερίας και να ακολουθούν καλύτερα τις καμπύλες του κεφαλιού η κάθε μία ανεξάρτητα ώστε να υπάρχει πλήρη επαφή και αποτελεσματικότητα ξυρίσματος (και άρα σε λιγότερο χρόνο, με λιγότερα περάσματα).
Τέλος, αντιμετώπισα ένα κλασικό σοβαρό πρόβλημα, το οποίο το διαβάζω σε όλες τις αρνητικές κριτικές, και ευτυχώς βρήκα τη λύση και σας την γράφω για να την εφαρμόσετε και εσείς, και να μην χρειαστεί ούτε να αγοράσετε καινούργια ούτε να το στείλετε στο service χωρίς λόγο. Κατά 99% των περιπτώσεων που θα σας συμβεί αυτό που θα περιγράψω, η λύση θα είναι αυτή που θα σας πω παρακάτω, εκτός φυσικά αν είστε άτυχοι και έχει καεί μοτεράκι ή έχει χαλάσει η μπαταρία (εκεί θέλει απαραίτητα service, το μόνο κατάστημα στην Ελλάδα επίσημα εξουσιοδοτημένο για Remington εντός εγγύησης βρίσκεται στην Αθήνα και λέγεται Δαμκαλίδης με email για επισκευές το [email protected]).
Αυτό που μου συνέβη είναι το εξής. Αγόρασα τη μηχανή τον Απρίλιο και μετά από 7 μήνες (Νοέμβριο) μου χάλασε. Ενώ έδειχνε φορτισμένη, με το που πατούσα το κουμπί ακουγόταν ένα "κλικ" στιγμιαίο και σταματούσε αμέσως, σαν να νεκρώνει τελείως, χωρίς να προλάβει να περιστραφεί κανένα από τα 5 μοτεράκια των κεφαλών. Συγκεκριμένα έκανα τα εξής πειράματα: την εβαλα να φορτισει πανω απο δυο ωρες η μπαταρια, εβγαλα το καλωδιο, εχοντας το καπακι με τις 5 κυκλικες λεπιδες κουμπωμενο επανω, πατησα το κουμπι να ανοιξει, ακουγεται ενα κλικ σα να δοκιμαζει στιγμιαια το μοτερακι να παρει μπρος και σταματα χωρις να περιστρεψει καμια λεπιδα καμια φορα. αν ξαναπατησω το κουμπι, δεν το ξανακανει αυτο, ειναι σα να εχει νεκρωσει. το ξαναβαζω για μερικα δευτερολεπτα στην μπριζα με το καλωδιο παλι, στιγμιαια αναβει η κοκκινη ενδειξη και μετα η πρασινη οτι φορτιζει. το βγαζω το καλωδιο, αφαιρω το καπακι με τις λεπιδες και παταω το κουμπι να ξεκινησει. τωρα περιστρεφονται ολα εσωτερικα, και τα 5 μοτεράκια. παταω το κουμπι να σταματησει, σταματανε να περιστρεφονται. το ξαναπαταω να ξεκινησει ξανα, ξαναξεκινανε. οσο περιστρεφονται παω να κουμπωσω το καπακι με τις λεπιδες, τη στιγμη ακριβως που κουμπωνει, σταματαει και νεκρωνει. σιγουρα παιζει ρολο το φορτιο δηλαδη που συνδεεται στα μοτερακια.
Γρήγορα βρήκα τη λύση. Παρόλο που άδειαζα τις τρίχες και την ξέπλενα με νερό μετά από κάθε χρήση, το σμήγμα και το νεκρό δέρμα είχαν δημιουργήσει ένα στρώμα βρωμιάς ανάμεσα στις λεπίδες εσωτερικά που δεν έφευγε με σκέτο νερό και μπλόκαρε την κίνηση, σε συνδυασμό με τα κομματάκια τριχών που παγιδεύονταν ανάμεσα στις λεπίδες, κάνοντας τα μοτεράκια να ζορίζονται, να προσπαθούν να τραβήξουν περισσότερη ισχύ και ρεύμα για να περιστραφούν, το οποίο οδηγούσε σε error state, μάλλον έκανε trigger κάποιο κύκλωμα ασφαλείας και την οδηγούσε στο να σβήνει εντελώς για ασφάλεια. Αυτή η λανθάνουσα κατάσταση γινόταν reset κάθε φορά που την έβαζα να φορτίσει για τουλάχιστον δύο δευτερόλεπτα, δηλαδή έστω και αυτό το στιγμιαίο jump-start στην μπρίζα την επαναλειτουργούσε. Η λύση σε αυτό είναι ένα deep clean των λεπίδων με ava για να διασπαστούν τα λίπη. Βγάζετε το αποσπώμενο καπάκι με τις κεφαλές και το μουλιάζετε για μισή ώρα σε ένα μπολ με ζεστό νερό και πολύ ava/fairy σαπουνάδα. Μετά το ξεπλένετε σε νερό υπό πίεση όσο πιο πολύ μπορείτε από όλες τις γωνίες και πλευρές/σημεία σε κάθε κεφαλή ώστε να φύγουν οι παγιδευμένες τρίχες ανάμεσα στις λεπίδες. Τέλος πιάνετε από την μέσα πλευρά μία μία τις λεπίδες με το χέρι και τις περιστρέφετε για να δείτε ότι όντως κινούνται ελεύθερα χωρίς πολλή τριβή, και άρα δεν θα ζορίζονται πλέον τα μοτεράκια. Το αφήνετε να στεγνώσει εντελώς, και το κουμπώνετε πάνω στο κύριο σώμα της μηχανής. Το ξανακάνετε ένα τελευταίο jump-start βάζοντας το στην μπρίζα για 2-5 δευτερόλεπτα μέχρι να ανάψει το πράσινο φωτάκι, το αποσυνδέετε και.... αν όλα πήγαν καλά θα αρχίσει να λειτουργεί πλέον κανονικά και πάλι και θα είναι σαν καινούργιο. Enjoy! Αν όχι, τότε είναι κάτι άλλο και θέλει service. Γενικά αυτό το deep clean το χρειάζεται ανά μήνα.
