A popular fantasy adventure for two teenagers from two very different worlds who must work together to save the universe. The companion novel to the bestseller Deep Secret.
The world of Arianrhod Hyde (known as Roddy) is full of magic, rituals, and rhythms. At its center is the Merlin, who is responsible for the magical health of the Blest Isles.
Nick Mallory's world is much more familiar—at least, it starts out as ours. However, Nick is not the typical fifteen-year-old he seems, as he enters a reality he thinks is a dream—but is, in fact, a completely different world. Nick has found himself in other worlds before (though never alone), but he is quite self-assured—perhaps a little more than he should be...
In Roddy's world, the current Merlin is leaving and a new one is taking his place. But something is not right—the rituals have been suspended, and nothing is going as it should. Roddy needs help, and Nick might be the one to provide it—even if he can't use magic...
Their stories unfold in parallel, and the Merlin Conspiracy grows larger—two narratives that combine until the mystery is finally revealed.
An exciting, sometimes humorous, and subversive narrative—this story will impress fans of Diana Wynne Jones worldwide (and possibly in other worlds)!
