A funny adventure about a fantastical world threatened with destruction by the most malevolent threat... tourism. Winner of the Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for Children's Literature in 1999.
A humorous fantasy by Diana Wynne Jones. In a world adjacent to ours, the tourism industry is destroying the population with its desire to experience all the fantastic clichés – Dark Lords, poor communities, dragons, etc.
The Dean of the University decides to shut down the tours, but the only problem is the ruthless leader of the tour guides – and his powerful demons. To save everyone, the incompetent wizard Derk is appointed as Dark Lord with the hope that he will destroy the tours, but of course, he fails at everything due to his general incompetence. But could failure lead to victory this time?
