"Silent Voices" is the fourth book in the Vera Stanhope series by Ann Cleeves, which has been adapted into the popular ITV crime drama series starring Brenda Blethyn as Vera.

No murder is simple... When DI Vera Stanhope discovers the body of a woman in the sauna of her local gym, her first thought is death by natural causes. However, she quickly notices signs of wire around the victim's neck and takes on a new murder case.

The victim is Jenny Lister, an experienced social worker, but her neighbors quickly inform Vera about her involvement in a notorious case. A young child has tragically died, and a member of Jenny's team was fired and blamed by the media.

As Vera tries to extract information from the secretive community, another body is discovered, and Vera finds herself in a race against time to stop the killer.
