Description & Specifications

This revised and expanded edition of poetry inspired by Tolkien's Hobbit includes unpublished poems and notes, and is beautifully illustrated by Narnia artist, Pauline Baynes.

"Here is something no fan of the epic Hobbit can afford to miss, while awaiting a further continuation of the story of these enchanting people – a selection [of verses] offered as an ‘interim report’ to those interested in the tradition of the Hobbit, and to anyone else who might find enjoyment in this mix of old treats."

One of the most interesting characters in The Lord of the Rings, the humorous and mystical Tom Bombadil, also appears in verses said to be written by Hobbits and preserved in the ‘Red Book’ with stories of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins and their friends. The adventures of Tom Bombadil collect these and other verses, mainly related to legends and jokes from the Shire at the end of the Third Age.

This special edition has been expanded to include early versions of some of Tolkien's poems, a passage from a prose story featuring Tom Bombadil, and extensive commentary by renowned Tolkien scholars, Christina Scull and Wayne G. Hammond. Pages: 304, Dimensions: 11.6x11.6cm
