The image of Glykofilousa was saved from iconoclasm and miraculously transferred to Athos. It belonged to Viktoria, the devout wife of the iconoclastic senator Simeon, who, in order not to surrender it, threw it into the sea. The image, floating upright on the waves, reached the jetty of the Philotheou Monastery, where it was received with great honor and joy by the abbot and the fathers of the Monastery, who had been informed through a revelation of the Theotokos. At the spot on the shore where they placed the image, a holy spring emerged.
