The QNAP TL-R1620SEP-RP expansion unit accommodates up to 16 2.5- or 3.5-inch SAS or SATA hard drives or SSDs. It supports 12 or 6 Gb/s SAS/SATA drives and hot swapping, while its 3U form factor allows rack installation.

Four 12 Gb/s SAS 3.0 ports with SFF-8644 connectors support multipath routing and link aggregation, with total bandwidth of up to 96 Gb/s via link aggregation and a stated throughput of up to 192 Gb/s. Broadcom SAS DataBolt technology consolidates 6 Gb/s infrastructure into 12 Gb/s. The unit is managed through QNAP QTS or QuTS hero and Storage & Snapshots Manager, and up to 16 units can be daisy-chained.
