The HOYA Fog No 0.5 has a frosted surface that lightly covers the entire image, providing a pleasant dreamy mist effect. Compared to other soft filters from HOYA, the objects in the photo remain sharp and in contrast. The effect can vary by changing the lens aperture. There are two HOYA Fog filters, Fog No 0.5 and the stronger Fog No 1, which can be used together to create an effect similar to dense fog.

The HOYA Fog No 0.5 filter uses special slotted glass to achieve the effect. A piece of this glass is laminated together with a transparent optical element, giving it a special sandwich structure that creates the mist effect. The soft effect of Fog No 0.5 enhances the bright areas in the image, allowing them to appear as glowing objects. It is highly recommended for night photography and for landscape settings, where it can create a mythical atmosphere.
