The HOYA Fog No 0.5 features a frosted surface that lightly covers the entire image, creating a pleasant dreamy fog effect. Compared to other soft filters from HOYA, the subjects in the photograph remain sharp and in contrast. The effect can vary by changing the aperture of the lens. There are two HOYA Fog filters, the Fog No 0.5 and the stronger Fog No 1. Both can be used together to create an effect similar to dense fog.

The HOYA Fog No 0.5 filter uses special slotted glass to achieve the effect. A piece of this glass is laminated along with a clear optical element, giving it a special sandwich structure that creates the fog effect.
