The HOYA Fog No 0.5 features a frosted surface that lightly covers the entire image, providing a pleasant dreamy fog effect. Compared to other soft filters from HOYA, objects remain sharp and contrasting. The effect may vary by changing the lens aperture; however, if stopped down too much, the effect will diminish.

There are two HOYA Fog filters, Fog No 0.5 and the stronger Fog No 1, which can be used together to create an effect similar to dense fog. The HOYA Fog No 0.5 filter uses special slotted glass to achieve the effect. It has a unique sandwich structure with a clear optical element that creates the dreamy effect.

The soft effect of Fog No 0.5 enhances the bright areas in the image, making them appear as luminous objects. It is recommended for nighttime photography and in landscape settings, allowing the photographer to create a mythical atmosphere.
