Description & Specifications

The legends of King Arthur - the most revered hero of British mythology - have been adapted many times, but Roger Lancelyn Green's version has become a classic work since its first publication in 1953. Using sources not only from Malory's MORTE D'ARTHUR but also from other historical records, poems, and romances, he has crafted each of the knights' adventures as part of an overall design - the struggle of Arthur's kingdom, the place Logres, the ideal of chivalry and justice, against the barbarity and evil that surrounded and ultimately destroyed it. Here are the stories of the sword in the stone, the Green Knight, the fateful love between Lancelot and Guinevere, the quest for the Holy Grail, and Arthur's final departure to the valley of Avalon. The illustrations are from an edition of MORTE D'ARTHUR published in 1893, with which Aubrey Beardsley first became known at the age of 20.
