  • Comfort
  • Durability
  • Easy-to-read dial
  • Value for money
  • Weight on the wrist
  • Is it as it appears in the photo?
  • Sense of sturdiness
  • Precision
  • I will not refer to information about its functions and capabilities, you can find those on the internet and in other reviews. I accidentally ran it over with my car twice with an SUV, once in reverse and once going forward. I thought I had destroyed it but it survived, with just a scratch on the back and the bars came out of the clasp plus the clasp got bent. I straightened it with a small pair of pliers, put the bars back in and everything was fine.

I start by referring to a similar watch to the Casio PRG-340 "solar" ProTrek watch, the PRG-80, which I bought in November 2010: until 2019-2020 everything worked perfectly, but then the more power-consuming functions (lighting, compass, altimeter, etc.) gradually stopped working, indicating that the solar rechargeable battery needed replacement to support them, as confirmed by the dealership. I still have the watch without having changed the battery: the time and 2-3 additional functions still work, 13+ years later! We are talking about a "watch - dog", with countless hours in the sea, rivers, lakes (I even did a dive at 8-9 meters), running, and many hits/falls, without anything happening to it! Unfortunately, Casio has stopped producing the "customized" rubber strap (which lasts for several years) and because mine is ready to be (re)cut, I decided to dismantle the watch, as common commercial straps do not have the same fit as the original (note that the straps of today's ProTrek watches, from what I see, are not "customized" and therefore the owners of these watches will not encounter a similar problem).

Having the above experience, I decided to buy the PRG-340: it has the same operating philosophy as the PRG-80, but provides more indications, it is much more beautiful (even more beautiful than it appears in the photos, although they are high resolution) and MUCH lighter! (because it is made of titanium...). The only downside is that, like the PRG-80, it measures time 15 seconds faster each month, so if accuracy matters to you, you will have to adjust it occasionally, otherwise you will arrive at your appointments a little earlier...

Note that - at least until now - Casio does not manufacture watches that combine solar rechargeable battery and Bluetooth connectivity (I don't know if any other company has achieved this), so the user is called to choose the technology that interests them the most, namely Solar charging or Bluetooth connectivity: so if you want a watch that you will change the battery every 9-10 years without worrying about anything else, then the PRG-340 is definitely the best choice. Its matte gray color combined with the bracelet make the watch both discreet and eye-catching, making it suitable for both sports and nature/sea escapes as well as casual attire!

Excellent watch, a real multitool without the need to connect to a mobile phone. Genuine Japanese beauty from any angle you see it. If you find it at a bargain price, for example during the last days of sales or Black Friday, like I did, get it. It could have been cheaper, not over 200 euros, since smartphones nowadays have the same and many more functions with just a download. My respect to CASIO for this work of art.

It's nice, but if it were made of metal and the rim, it would be even better
