For the past decade, U.S.-Turkey relations have entered a period of significant change.

The Turkish leadership as a whole seeks to develop, much to the surprise and often great displeasure of American officials, a new tone in its dialogue with Washington, essentially claiming to make Turkey an equal interlocutor with the U.S.

The interpretation of modern Turkish attitudes, as well as the American reaction, has much to gain from the study and analysis of the evolution of the strategic relationship between the U.S. and Turkey during the 1980s and 1990s.

This topic is addressed in the book, which attempts to provide, first, a different perspective regarding the evolution of the bilateral relationship and, second, to illuminate certain aspects that have until now remained in the shadows.
