Description & Specifications

Andrea Dworkin, once called the "Malcolm X of Feminism," has been revered, critiqued, analyzed - but never ignored. The power of her writing, the passion of her ideas, and the ferocity of her intellect have propelled the discussions and activism of two generations of feminists. Now the book for which she is best known - in which she sparked the controversy that eventually split the feminist movement - is being reissued for the new men and women of the twenty-first century. Intercourse provoked reader anger as much as it inspired when first published in 1987. In it, Dworkin argues that in a male-dominated society, the sexual relationship between men and women is a central part of women's subjugation to men. The introduction to this twentieth-anniversary edition of Intercourse by Ariel Levy, author of Female Chauvinist Pigs, discusses the circumstances of Dworkin's untimely death in 2005 and the tremendous impact of her life and work. Dworkin's argumentation, she points out, is feminism's most difficult question: Can a woman fight power when its agents share her bed?
