Although the term "enjoyment" is a current reference in modern psychoanalysis, how much does it really have to tell us? While it is usually interpreted as a determinant of the fusion of sexuality with pain and pleasure, today it has degenerated into a purely descriptive use, which obscures more questions than it raises.
And while it is supposed to explain the synthesis of pleasure and pain, it is applied to a wide range of issues, quite distinct from one another, which we would do well to distinguish rather than confuse.
Returning to some of the sources of enjoyment, as found in Freud's work and as processed by Lacan, this book hopes to provoke a fruitful debate regarding the relationships of pleasure with pain, autoeroticism, the connections between satisfaction and arousal, the effects of repression, as well as the role of the body in psychoanalytic theory.
The aim of the Leader is to provide an interpretive context of Lacanian work and to encourage dialogue with other psychoanalytic traditions.
