SHORTLISTED FOR THE BARBELLION PRIZE 2021

A statement on repositioning life. Josie George lives in a small house in the urban areas of the West Midlands with her son. Since childhood, she has faced the challenges of a chronic illness, which is constantly changing and confusing.

However, Josie's world is amazing, complex, and dynamic. She has learned to observe: the routines of her friends at the community center, the birds flying in the neighborhood, the slow changes in the morning light, in her small garden, in her son and herself.

In January 2018, Josie decides to narrate the story of her "immortal life," which unfolds over the course of a year. As the seasons change and her body's rhythms fluctuate, she begins to open up her story. Against a world that values progress and productivity, Josie proposes a quietly radical alternative: to honor and appreciate life for its own sake, with all its great and small wonders.

"Full of kindness, A Still Life will make you a better person" - Clare Mackintosh
