Description

In the fourth major expansion of Catan, players are once again transported to the sea as explorers: they travel and colonize islands, try to avoid pirates, and collect gold! With five major scenarios and many new options, you will never get enough of playing!

A taste of the game!

Catan: Explorers & Pirates differs from the base game of Catan in three key ways.

First, instead of a single island on which players build and compete for resources, there are three islands — but only one is known at the start of the game. Players begin on this island and then build ships and bring settlers into the game so they can travel to new areas.
When a ship completes its movement next to an unexplored area, the corresponding hex is revealed and a randomly chosen numbered token is placed on it. The player who revealed it gains one resource as a reward, provided the hex produces resources. (The number of unknown tiles ranges from 16 to 32, depending on the scenario.)
A settler and a ship can be upgraded into a settlement, from which roads and new ships can be built for further exploration of the new land.

Second, instead of cities, Catan: Explorers & Pirates allows players to build harbor settlements by paying two grain and two ore. A harbor settlement provides only one resource when the corresponding number is rolled at the start of a turn. Like cities, harbor settlements are worth two victory points (VPs), while the total number of points required to win depends on the scenario.

Third, if a player does not receive any resources during the production phase (unless a 7 is rolled), they receive one gold as compensation. Two gold can be exchanged with the bank for one resource of the player’s choice. Gold also has other uses, such as helping to escape from pirates.

The five scenarios included in Catan: Explorers & Pirates are:

• Land Ho!
Explore the seas of Catan and discover two new islands to expand your settlements. After locating an island, you must use ships to transport settlers from island to island and colonize distant regions.
(Introduction scenario)

• Pirate Lairs!
In this scenario, pirates roam the seas alongside your trading ships. Pay tribute to the pirates or drive them away, then locate and capture their lairs to earn gold and victory points!
(Single-mission scenario)

• Fish for Catan!
The people of Catan are facing a food shortage, so it is time to turn to the sea for fishing. But these are offshore fish — first you must locate their schools before you can catch them!
The Catan Council rewards players with victory points for both returning fish to the island and capturing pirate lairs. But beware of roaming pirates — not only will they demand gold, they may get to the fish first!
(Two-mission scenario)

• Spices for Catan!
In this scenario, the Catan Council asks you to find fish and spices for the people of Catan! As before, the most active merchant captains are rewarded with victory points.
To obtain spices, you will need to befriend the mysterious inhabitants of the Spice Islands; in return, they will not only trade spices with you, but also teach you their navigation knowledge or even combat techniques against pirates!
(Two-mission scenario)

• Explorers and Pirates!
This extensive and demanding scenario combines all elements of the previous scenarios! Explore new lands, capture pirate lairs, fish, and befriend the inhabitants of the Spice Islands!
(Three-mission scenario)

A bit tricky until you learn it and remember everything, but it's worth it. Of course, you need to already have the classic Catan.

If you want to finish your master's degree you can get it!! The instructions are 20 pages, whoever is passionate can read them, learn them and give the information to the opponent, let them buy it!! There's nothing like the classic Catan!!

Favorite expansion of Catan which, although it significantly changes the original game, in my opinion, adds nice elements that make it very fun. This does not mean that the interest in the original Catan is lost, as it feels like two different versions are created with this expansion. I say this because with this expansion some rules and mechanisms of the original game are canceled, giving a different dimension to the game. If you love Catan and want something familiar with new elements, give it a chance.

No relation to previous versions. You can play it alone or together with the others if you have them. The game takes it to another level with completely new and different things to do. So, you have choices

It makes the game play very slow without adding anything particularly interesting to the game itself.
